EN IEC 61000-6-2

EN IEC 61000-6-2

An industrial immunity test order begins with a scope decision and a usable description of the equipment. EN IEC 61000-6-2 is a generic immunity publication for industrial environments. The buyer should establish why this generic reference is proposed before comparing laboratory prices.

When a generic immunity document is proposed

The public scope addresses electrical and electronic apparatus in industrial environments and states that the generic standard is applicable when no relevant dedicated product or product-family immunity standard exists. It identifies both indoor and outdoor industrial contexts.

Ask the assessor to record its scope selection. Provide the product function, intended installation, connections and operating arrangements. A label such as “industrial controller” does not replace this description or prove that a generic document is the appropriate choice.

Prepare an industrial immunity quotation

Original generic immunity buying brief
Brief itemQuestion to resolve
Reference selectionWhy is the generic immunity route proposed for this product?
Installation contextWhich industrial environment and connection assumptions are represented?
Functions and monitoringWhat does the laboratory need to observe the intended functions?
Reported configurationHow will model, software, accessories and operating modes be identified?

The table is an original service-briefing aid. It does not select test levels or performance criteria. Those need to be determined by the responsible assessor using the appropriate documents and the product information.

Questions to compare laboratory offers

  • Does the proposal explain the absence of a relevant dedicated immunity reference?
  • Which product variants and operating modes are included?
  • Who supplies fixtures, connected equipment and monitoring support?
  • How are limitations, unexpected behaviour and unresolved questions recorded?
  • Which changes require review before the report is used for a later model?

Send the same description to each bidder. One offer may assume that the buyer supplies a fully prepared test mode; another may include preparation support. Compare the complete work and schedule rather than only the testing line on the quotation.

Example: an industrial monitoring unit

A manufacturer buys an assessment service for a monitoring unit intended for factory use. The product has optional sensors and two software configurations. Before accepting a quotation, the buyer asks the laboratory to explain its proposed generic reference and define the configurations represented.

The engineering team supplies a function description and agrees who will provide monitoring support. The purchase order names the assessment scope and report deliverable. This keeps the sample and final product evidence connected without the buyer guessing which tests or criteria apply.

Keep immunity, emissions and safety assignments visible

An immunity service should have its own scope in the document register. The separate EN IEC 61000-6-4 title concerns industrial emissions. Ask the responsible team to identify which assignments are needed for the product rather than treating the shared series number as a complete assessment package.

Where the equipment performs a safety-related function, define that wider engineering context separately. This buying guide does not establish functional safety evidence or declare that a generic EMC assessment resolves all safety questions.

Frequently asked buying questions

Is this automatically suitable for every factory product?

The public scope contains a generic-standard condition. Ask the assessor to check dedicated product or family references and document the selection.

Does this guide give test levels?

No technical testing values are reproduced. Buy the document for the responsible team and commission a defined assessment assignment.

Can an existing report cover my optional sensors?

Compare the configuration and limitations stated in the report with the proposed product, then request an explanation of any differences.
